这两个词组粗略的说都是说在下午，但是，所用的介词不同，也还是有区别的。首先，intheafternoon，意思就是我们平时说的“在下午”。比如：wehavefourclassesintheafternoon.(我们下午有四节课)。
其次，如果介词用“on”，意思是特指某个或某天具体的下午，需要有定语加以修饰才行，比如：onarainyafternoon(在一个下雨的下午)，ontheafternoonofOctober1.(在十月一日的下午)等等
thisafternoon和intheafternoon的区别
英语中，一天当中的时间段名词（morning，afternoon，noon,evening,night等），如有除冠词以外的修饰语时，应该用介词on.
所以单纯说“在上午（早上）”应该用in，也就是说在没有其他的修饰语时，只能用inthemorning。
